Little Christmas – Keeping Tradition Alive at The Red Door

Little Christmas - Keeping Tradition Alive at The Red Door

There are no January blues at The Red Door as we look forward to Friday 6th January 2012 when women will gather to celebrate Nollaig na mBan (Women’s Little Christmas).

Irish tradition dictates that this is the day that women relax after the hustle and bustle of Christmas, while the men take over the housework. The tradition is still alive in counties Cork and Kerry and The Red Door has certainly given it a revival in Donegal over the past three years!

This female get-together may descend from women raising turkeys to sell at Christmas. The earnings would have been used for Christmas expenses and the women then spent any leftover cash on themselves at the start of January.

Women would gather in each others houses for chat and songs while sipping tea with their sandwiches. However, on Friday night, the tea and sandwiches will be replaced by cocktails and mouth-watering food. We will also have live music and a few tricks up our sleeves!

Gather your friends and family and don’t miss a great night’s entertainment at The Red Door.
