John Ward has been a long time exponent of Donegal and its strength in terms of what it has to offer the tourist.
His quest is twofold:
1. Getting the message out about what is on offer in the county

John says,
“I like being able to point out the hidden gems of Co. Donegal. A recent guide I’ve done was on the ‘Greatest Shrines’ of the county which salutes places that are not necessarily sacred, but have a certain pilgrimage quality to a lot of people. You’ll get well known ‘Meccas’ like Rossnowlagh for surfers or Errigal for hillwalkers, but there are a fair few places that do have a certain mystique to them – best to view it and find out!”
The Visit Inishowen app has been around for a while now and we are big fans of it here at The Red Door. You see exactly where all of the points of interest are located so you can spend more time enjoying yourself.
The latest free app from navigatour™, ‘Donegal Guide’ is designed to get people thinking about a trip to Donegal. With such a vast county, it can be daunting trying to decide how to best spend your time here. Well, all the homework is done in this app – all you have to do is decide how much time you have to enjoy the gems!
John’s passion for Donegal is admirable.
“I’m particularly interested in showcasing our rich cultural history – placenames, folklore, history and mythology are in abundance up here. If we can get these nuggets of information to would-be visitors, it could make all the difference. The more interesting we are, the more appealing we are to tourists. With any luck, in the variety of apps I’ve done, they’ll get a flavour of the county,” says John.
