Afternoon Tea

Top 3 Occasions for Afternoon Tea

It’s no secret that we Irish are fond of one (or 10) cups of tea every day! Be it somewhat a “necessity”, a soother or a force of habit, it’s something that has proudly become a part of our culture. What’s better than sitting down for a relaxing cuppa with friends and family? And the increasing popularity of the treat of Afternoon Tea in a homely country house or hotel has without doubt enhanced this novelty experience.

Dating back to the 18th century, the Afternoon Tea ritual began in Britain. Originally intended to keep hunger at bay between lunch and dinner, finely cut sandwiches and sweet treats were eaten by ladies of the ‘higher social class’ and served as a means of entertaining their guests. Today in Britain and Ireland alike, the tradition lives on and Afternoon Tea has become a treat for special occasions for (mainly) ladies to meet up and dine over the enjoyment of a pot of tea and home-made scones, sandwiches and sweet pastries.

Perfect Occasions for Afternoon Tea

Stuck for something different to do to celebrate a birthday, baby shower or hen party? Afternoon Tea is the perfect option for a girly, relaxing afternoon catch-up to celebrate your special occasion. Here at The Red Door, Saturday Afternoon Tea is enjoyed over-looking the breath taking views of the Lough Swilly in our luxurious dining room, while on Sundays it is enjoyed around intimate tables in front of the cosy fires in our lounge areas.

1. Baby Shower

With the increasing popularity of baby shower celebrations before the new arrival, Afternoon Tea provides the perfect opportunity for a gathering of close friends and family to exchange gifts and join together in anticipation and excitement. And why not add to the fun by playing some easily organized, low-cost games, some suggestions can be found here: Baby Shower Games – Simple set-up

2. Hen Party

Okay, so we’re all aware of the “one last blast” night as a single lady with your friends before the big day, involving copious amounts of alcohol and some dodgy games in each bar you visit. But why not opt for a relaxing break amidst the mad weekend. Afternoon Tea provides the ideal moment to sit around and enjoy some quality time with your closest friends and family in the lead up to your wedding day. And if you still want to add that something extra to your experience, you could include a glass of prosecco. Another worthwhile suggestion is Afternoon Tea with your elder family members such as your mum, aunties and granny for a mini-hen party. This allows for them to be a part of your pre-wedding celebrations, but in a much more relaxed environment suitable for all age-groups.

3. Birthday

Afternoon Tea is the ultimate quirky birthday experience your friends are sure to love. We all know that chocolate and cakes are the way to a girl’s heart, so top that off with your nearest and dearest, pots of tea and a comfy seat for the afternoon, you’ve got the perfect birthday treat. And don’t worry if you don’t manage to make your way through all your treats, here at The Red Door we provide takeaway boxes to ensure you continue to savour the remainder at home too.
